Welcome to St. Andrew's Cathedral PDF Print E-mail

Daily Mass on TV and Online Resources

Salt + Light TV is also televising the daily Mass celebrated by Pope Francis from Casa Santa Marta. This airs every day at 9:00 am and will be televised in both English and French. La Messe du jour, produced and televised by Salt + Light TV from the crypt at Saint Joseph Oratory in Montreal, will now be televised on Sundays through arrangements with the Archdiocese of Montreal.

An update regarding COVID-19 from the Rector:

The Bishop has issued liturgical directives for us in this time of the coronavirus and, as a result, ALL Masses and public gatherings throughout the diocese have been cancelled effective immediately.  See the attachment: https://pdfhost.io/v/81SwkEMTV_Bishops_COVID19_Update_Mar_18_2020pdf.pdf

This means that from Thursday onwards there will be no Masses at the Cathedral although the Cathedral will be open from 9 am until 4 pm each day for private prayer.

  • We will be removing the paper music inserts but the hymnals will stay.

  • Stations of the Cross are also cancelled but appropriate Prayer Books can be located in the Narthex so that you can “make the Stations” on your own, either in Church or at home.

  • The daily missalettes at the back of the Church may also be taken home if you believe they will be of assistance to you spiritually.  They contain prayers and readings for the weekday Masses as well as the weekend Masses for March.

  • The blessing & dedication of the Stained Glass windows in the sacristy is postponed to a later date.

During this time of the COVID-19 we want to be present to the needs of our parishioners but also to protect our Office Staff from exposure to any illness.  Therefore:

  • Those desiring to purchase the Large Vigil Lights are asked to write their request and intention and place the money for the candle in an envelope and drop it through the mail slot at the Cathedral.  Do not come to the office to purchase candles.

  • Those desiring to book a Mass are invited to the same type of process or to phone the parish office.  If a Mass card is desired, one can be mailed to you.  Do not come to the office to request a Mass card.

Of course, we wish to be of service to our parishioners.   If necessary visits are required, please consider phoning first or emailing.   Social distancing is something we want to follow.

Also, the 9-10 Club (Soup Kitchen) continues to operate but has moved from a sit down type of meal to providing a bag lunch for each guest.

The food drive announced for next Sunday is also postponed to a later date in order not to cause anyone to unnecessarily venture outside.  However, if you have already purchased food and wish to donate please feel free to drop it off in the Church narthex at any point in time.

We want to remember to care for each other

We are looking for some volunteers who would be willing to support our parishioners who are self-isolating at home, with delivery of medications or groceries.  If you feel like you would be able to support our faith community in this way, please call or email the office as we are taking down names of those able to help out.

If you are a parishioner and if  you are at home, vulnerable and cannot venture out to get essential supplies, please call or email the office and we will try to find someone to help you in your time of need.

I will continue to send out emails on a regular basis but probably not daily.  The printing of the bulletin will be suspended for a period of time but, my emails or a version of them will be shared with all who subscribe to the email bulletin.  For some it will be a repeat but for others the way they will hear from me.

Please be assured that I remember all of you in my daily prayers and in the private Mass that I will offer each day.

Fr. John

Whether you’re just visiting us for a brief time, looking for a new parish home, are returning to the practice of your Catholic faith or are interested in finding out more about the Catholic Church, we’re happy to have you here.

A parish is a community of believers and a spiritual family that is supportive and loving. It can be a place to grow spiritually, to put your faith in action, and to use our gifts of time and talent as disciples of Christ.  Explore our pages under Ministries and Education for opportunities to use your gifts, expand your prayer life or learn more about our faith.

We look forward to seeing you!

St. Andrew’s Cathedral is very thankful to the City of Victoria for granting us a three-year permissive tax exemption (2020 - 2022). This exemption will allow us to fund many programs for our community and support outreach to those in need.
