Extra-Ordinary Form of the Mass

On Saturday, June 24th at 11 am an Extra-Ordinary Form of the Mass for the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist will be celebrated at St. Andrew's Cathedral (poster).  Extra-Ordinary refers to the fact that it will be the Mass Ritual as mandated in 1962 and not the Ordinary Mass (which is what we normally celebrate in our parish churches).  The Sung Mass will be in Latin and celebrated by Fr. Pablo Santa Maria Watson from Vancouver.  CapriCCio Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Gormley, will sing Palestrina's Mass Aeterna Christi munera.  This celebration of the Extra-Ordinary Form of the Mass is done in the context of the Cathedral's 125th anniversary celebrations.  A collection will be taken to assist with expenses.

125th Anniversary

St Andrew's Cathedral has begun its 125th anniversary celebrations with special masses celebrated on Oct 29th & 30th for the Dedication of a Church. Our festivities will continue throughout the coming year which dovetails into the 150th Anniversary of Canada. Special liturgical and cultural events highlighting the architectural beauty, acoustical excellence, and historical and spiritual relevance of the Cathedral in our Victoria community will be on the calendar. Click on this link:   Concert Series Calendar for a snapshot of some of the concerts and events that are being planned for the next few months.

A Picnic to celebrate 125 years!

Parishioners (and others from throughout the diocese) are invited to attend the 11 am Mass on Sunday, July 9th and then gather at the grounds of St. Ann's Academy (835 Humboldt Street) -- or attend a different Mass and come to the event which takes place from 12:30 pm - 4 pm.   There will be live music (Jazz Band & Coastline Fiddlers), opportunities for socialization and games for children.  Food:  bring your own or have some Filipino BBQ pig and noodles or KC hotdogs & burgers.  Drinks and food will be available for purchase at $1/item.     Also:  Ice cream for purchase.   Bring your own chair if you wish, although we will have tents and chairs on site.

In addition to all of the above there will be an opportunity to tour the Chapel (our first Cathedral) and to view a display on Archbishop Seghers.

Come for an hour or two and meet friends and make new friends as we celebrate this event to mark the Cathedral’s 125th anniversary!

Mark your calendar and join us in the festivities of the Mother Church of our Diocese!

Summer Bible Camp (July 17 - 21)

St. Andrew's Summer Bible Camp will be held at St. Joseph the Worker parish Hall (753 Burnside Road W) this year.  The camp runs from 9 am - 4 pm each day, with an extra hour of care before and after at no extra charge.  We provide t-shirts, snacks and plenty of opportunity for activity.  We will have 2 field trips and will be taking Wilson Transportation to transport the children.  Camp is faith-based and open to children from the ages of 4 - 12.  The cost of the camp is $50/child.

Diocesan Family Conference (Aug 24 - 27)

Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Diocesan Family Conference on the shores of beautiful Nanoose Bay!  Last year, 300+ people of all ages spent a glorious weekend together with their families relaxing on the beach, listening to amazing speakers, singing around the beach fire, playing and praying together.  This year, our speakers are Josh and Denise Grimard -- all the way from Bishop Gary's old parish in Telegraph Creek, BC -- where they serve as missionaries.  Our these this year is "Our Mission:  In the family, in the community and the world".  Special guest:  Ryan Mitchell, our youth's favourite missionary from Face 2 Face Ministries!

Call Marnie Wynans at 250-723-3263 for more information.  Registration will be open soon on the Diocesan website:  rcdvictoria.org

For Young Adults

Are you between the ages of 24 - 36?  Then you're perfect for our resurrected Young Adults Group facilitated by Fr. Harrison Ayre.  Beginning September 25th, following the 5 pm Mass, we will meet each week in the parish centre for food, discussion and fellowship.  Our topics will be many and varied, but our primary purpose is to create a space for young adults of the Cathedral parish to make lasting friendships with other Catholics.
