Baptism for Newborns to
Children Aged 6

We warmly welcome you to celebrate the baptism of your child at St. Andrew's Cathedral!

Regular Mass attendance and participation in our baptism preparation class are essential. After you complete the class, we will be happy to provide a date and Mass when baptisms will be celebrated.

We encourage baptism inquiries at any time, even before your baby is born, to ensure everything is prepared for this joyous occasion. As you choose a name for your child, we invite you to include a Saint’s name as part of their Christian identity, reflecting the tradition of the Church.

As far as Godparents are concerned, it is normal Catholic practice for a child to have one Godfather and one Godmother; however, only one Godparent is required. The Godparents must be practicing Catholics. It is possible to choose one Godparent who is a practicing Catholic and another baptized person who is known as a Christian witness. The Christian witness is, as the title indicates, a Christian but not a Catholic. Non-baptized persons cannot be Godparents or Christian witnesses.

To help you fully participate in the sacredness of your child's baptism, we invite you to designate a family member or friend, someone who is not a parent or godparent, to take photographs during the ceremony. This allows parents and godparents to be present in the prayer and celebration without distraction. After the ceremony, there will also be time for additional photos to capture this special occasion.

We happily welcome your small children, family members, and friends to join in the celebration of this special sacrament of baptism. Their presence adds to the joy and meaning of the day, as we come together to celebrate this beautiful moment in your child's faith journey.

We are here to guide and support you through this meaningful time in your family’s faith journey. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

We will gather some initial information from you and then provide the dates for the upcoming Baptismal Preparation Session, to which you will be warmly invited. A deacon or priest will reach out to you before the preparation class to guide you through the next steps.

Baptism for Children Aged 7 - 12

We look forward to supporting your child’s faith journey through our parish's Religious Education program or Catholic school. This preparation process is personalized to each child, ensuring they are ready to fully experience the beauty of the sacraments. The journey typically takes two to three years, during which your child will prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, and Reconciliation.

We encourage families to make the Cathedral their place of worship, where both you and your child can grow in faith together. Throughout the preparation period, your child will participate in special rituals that mark key moments in their spiritual progress, making this journey even more meaningful for your family.
